We need to start by listening to the teachers.
Our public school system is the foundation for everything we hope for in our country. Great neighborhoods and property values depend on the quality of our schools. Flourishing businesses require schools that produce an employable workforce.
The teachers are the ones doing the actual work. We need to start by listening to the teachers. and we must make sure they have the materials, reasonable time, and the right environment to achieve the goals we give them.
Some say this is conservative. Some say liberal. My mom would have called it "Common Sense”!
"If the condition of man is to be progressively ameliorated, as we fondly hope and believe, education is to be the chief instrument in effecting it." --Thomas Jefferson to M. A. Jullien, 1818.
Cheaply Built Government Subsidized Housing
There is one issue that practically every homeowner, business owner, and educator agrees on: the negative impact of cheaply built government housing.
Poorly designed, poorly planned subsidized housing is a scourge on any community and results in driving down property values, imperiling our schools, and destroying our neighborhoods while increasing crime.
I pledge to do all in my power to continue the work of my predecessor in assuring the people in Spring, Klein, and Tomball that this blight will not find it’s way into our community.
I have the unique position to have actually worked as a counselor in a crisis pregnancy center for 3 years trying to convince women to bring their pregnancies to term. I am profoundly pro-life. But more than that, I am “enhance-life”. I saw first hand how the fear of the future, the fear of abandonment, and the fear of poverty affected the decisions of women wrestling with the issue of abortion when they had no hope for a better future.
If conservative values mean we really want to become a pro life state, all the issues which impact a woman’s decision to bring life into our world need to be addressed.
"When people lack jobs, opportunity, and ownership of property they have little or no stake
in their communities." -- The Honorable Jack Kemp
"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is." --Sister Joan Chittister
I own three guns. I enjoy shooting. The second amendment affords me this right. And I support our constitution.
"Certainly one of the chief gurantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular
and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms." --Sen. Hubert Humphrey
We must secure our border with Mexico.
Both Ronald Reagan and George Bush had the answer to our immigration crisis, and I hope to see their wisdom prevail today.
